Richardson Kiwanis to participate in district grant program

Governor Erby Eikner has authorized the expenditure of $2000.00 from the T/O District Disaster Relief Fund to begin a “Matching Pilot Grant Program aimed at working at community shelters. Initial testing of this program will begin in the Dallas Metroplex. Each club in this pilot area that chooses to participate in the program can receive $400.00 in personal care items to be donated to a local shelter of its choice. The program is a matching program with each the club and the District contributing $200.00.   The items can be given to the club to sort and deliver or be delivered directly to the organization.

The purpose of the program is to give Kiwanians the opportunity to help citizens in their community who are in dire need of assistance and to also encourage new membership in our clubs. Our members will be given the chance to contribute to the local shelters by providing relief for victims of domestic abuse or homelessness. Volunteer opportunities may include:

Designing fund-raising events

Being a guest speaker to promote Kiwanis activities with the shelters

Occupy booths at health fairs

Volunteer drivers to pick up donated goods

Multi lingual volunteers to answer phones at the shelters or promote the programs in minority communities
